Space Eater: Merciful angel
08/11/07 || Euthanatos
Yes, it’s Euthanatos reviewing yet another thrash album. What can I do? I’m manly that way and you’re all fags. That’s right, you all suck dick while listening to Nightwish.
Not that I’ve antagonized you all, let’s get down to business. Never in my life had I heard of this band before, Space Eater. What a terrible and ingenious name, by the way. Apparently they’re young guys, formed in 2004 and from Serbia, of all places. I don’t know about you, but I, for one, always get a kick when metal, especially real metal like thrash, hails from somewhere unexpected. Awesome.
After a couple of demos, these lads finally release their debut. The overall vibe here is really similar to classic acts like Agent Steel and old-school Anthrax. You know, that metal thrashing mad collection of riffs plus melodic, high vocals. This is good stuff too.
I can’t help it, I have a huge soft spot in my blackened heart for well-done-well-performed old school thrash metal. It just doesn’t get any better than this, in my mind.
While most riffs in this album are totally killer and I like the way the production sounds dated (making it even more nostalgic), not everything is peach tree cherries here. Yes, I just made that one up. The vocals are kind of weird. They’re not bad, they just take a while to get used to. By the fourth song you won’t think about it, but the dude does have some odd pipes. Truth be told, though, that can be good, as it sets the band apart.
Anyway, killer album, this will be getting regular spins from me. Recommended, once again, to all that are into a manlier form of metal. Ha.
The Cover: a badass looking angel with a sword and the background is fighter jets flying over fucked up, bullet pierced buildings… Kinda looks like… Yeah, Serbia.
7,5 moshes in the mosh pit out of 10.
